Camping in Hong Kong is fun.
But planning a camping on a map is a hard job. You have an idea where
to go, have selected a favourable camp site, but you don't know its
surrounding areas, what you will see, and, very likely, how to get
there. A typographic map gives you an abstract and accurate idea of a
certain place and its geographic features, but very few of us could
visualize the three-dimensional scenes with our average spatial
ability. This Google
Earth Approach to Hong Kong Camp Sites give accurate
positions of the
38 camp sites desigated by the AFCD, with pictures and links
to more info.
How does it work?
Download the KMZ
file and open it with Google Earth. You will see all camp sites listed
under 'Temporary Places'. Feel free to double click each site to fly to
it, or click the play button to have a fly-by cruise. If you would like
to keep them, move the 'Hong Kong Camp Sites' folder to 'My Places'.
Google Earth since June 2006 has offered high resolution maps covering
almost 98% of Hong Kong land area. The exception is Tung Ping Chau in
our North Eastern waters. You can zoom in and out to each camp site, tilt
up and down to see its surroundings. Move a mouse over any area, it
shows the altitude.

Suggestions and Improvements
I have been to some
of the camp sites only and i wish to hear from you. Let me know if you
find some camp sites are incorrectly labeled. Send me your KMZ files
and I will incorporate your ideas to give everyone easier access to our
beautiful camp sites. Send your suggestions and/or KMZ files to

Future Plans
I wish to include some unofficial camp sites, too, in future releases.
Send me your suggestions!
